This talk will examine the British response to the fighting that took place on Polish soil between 1914 and 1923. It will focus on the various diplomatic initiatives involving Poland that occurred during the First World War; the influence of the famous historian Lewis Namier on British policy towards Poland during this period; British attitudes towards the discussion of the Polish Question at the Versailles conference in 1919; the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-21, and the other border disputes that affected Poland – All being influenced by the simultaneous demand for the application of similar principles to Ireland.
The talk will be illustrated with reproductions of the original documents used by British Ministers during their discussion of Polish affairs.’
This talk will be presented by Mr. Gabriel Doherty, a lecturer in the School of History, University College Cork, whose research interests include the history of Irish-Polish relations.

Rząd brytyjski a sprawy polskie między 1914 a 1923

Wykład będzie poświęcony brytyjskiej odpowiedzi na wydarzenia toczące się na terenie Polski między 1914 a 1923 rokiem. Wykład skupiać się będzie na wielu inicjatywach dyplomatycznych dotyczących Polski, które miały miejsce podczas I Wojny Światowej; na wpływie słynnego historyka, Lewisa Namier, na postawę rządu brytyjskiego w stosunku do Polski i odzyskania przez nią niepodległości; na wojnie Polsko-Sowieckiej 1919-1921 i na innych sporach, które miały wpływ na losy Polski – jako że postawa brytyjska odzwierciedlała ich stosunek do zastosowania równoległych rozwiązań dotyczących niepodległości Irlandii.

Podczas wykładu zostaną zaprezentowane reprodukcje oryginalnych dokumentów użytych przez Rząd Brytyjski w czasie dyskusji dotyczących Polski.
Wykład będzie prowadzony przez pana Gabriela Doherty, wykładowcę na Wydziale Historii University College Cork, który naukowo skupia się między innymi na historii stosunków polsko-irlandzkich.
